You’re looking at the Jaecoo J6, a brand new offering for Chery’s emerging premium sub-brand. Unlike ICE either J7 supports PHEV And J8 however, the smaller J6 is a full electric vehicle. As you can see, this is certainly a cool looking SUV, although its styling doesn’t necessarily match the rest of the models in the Jaecoo range.

Well, that’s because J6 is not a Jaecoo at all, at least not by birth. In China, it is sold as iCar 03 (completely unrelated Apple cars are widely rumored), another sub-brand under the Chery umbrella aimed at fashion-loving youth. However, for the export market, it will be called Jaecoo J6.

You may also notice that we have two sets of photos here: one shows the car wearing the Jaecoo badge and the other has the original iCar name. The Jaecoo grille unfortunately lost the glowing i logo that was recreated on both the head and taillight designs.

Another difference is the large box at the back, which is not present on the Jaecoo show car. Please note, the rectangular outer box is designed after the traditional tailgate-mounted spare tire on the iCar that predates the similar charging cable storage solution on the recently launched model. Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen is electric.

In addition, the J6 also has a very special cubic design, which will definitely stand out on the streets of Malaysia if you set foot here. Emitted shape Land Rover defender The vibe is definitely there, while its small size gives it a bit of a feel Suzuki Jimny 5 door taste is good. However, it must be said that in practical terms, the J6 looks original, unlike the countless Chinese knockoffs seen at the ongoing Auto China 2024 in Beijing.

Cool details include Defender-style side-hinged rear doors and self-closing door handles. However, the rear section sweeps back instead of sticking out all the way like other Jaecoo models (among the few features compared to Range Rovers).

In terms of size, Jaecoo J6 is 4,406 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,715 mm high. Its wheelbase is relatively long for an SUV of this size, at 2,715 mm. Dimensions make it only slightly shorter than the J7 (4,500 mm), although the J6 is slightly wider (+45 mm) and taller (+35 mm).

Inside, it has a large central display and a spacious horizontal layout. It feels quite luxurious to the touch – perhaps even more so than the J7 – especially with the crystal drive mode selector on the center console. The doors open with a Tesla-like button, while the exposed riveted handle is inspired by the Defender.

In China, the iCar 03 is available with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive electric motor configurations. According to local Chinese reports, the dual-motor version has a capacity of 279 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. However, the maximum speed is limited to 150 km/h. Range is up to 501 km in the CLTC test cycle, using the largest 69.8 kWh LFP battery option offered by CATL.

There’s also a set of roof-mounted solar panels that can help charge the battery pack further, as well as an ADAS camera from popular drone manufacturer DJI. Similar to Tesla Vision, the J6 relies solely on high-resolution cameras placed around the vehicle to perform driver assistance functions without the need for any radar or sensors.

We’ll know more when exports begin, which we’re told will happen soon. Do you want to see the Jaecoo J6 in Malaysia? Comment below.
