The devastated Corgi had to crawl to safety after being shot in the middle of the eye

A Corgi named Arthur barely survived a severe head injury. He ducked under a fence at a farm in Pennsylvania to beg for help, and luckily that led him to an animal rescue organization. At first, rescuers thought his injuries were from scratched fences, but when they cleaned him up, they discovered a perfect bullet hole between his eyes. Someone intentionally shot him.

Somehow, the bullet hit Arthur’s brain, but he was still in critical condition. Animal rescuers gave him medical care and contacted his family along the way. However, many questions remain unanswered.

Corgi on the brink of death

Farm Arthur’s property owners have gathered information to call Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA). Arthur has a large wound on his head full of debris. At first, he was in too much pain to go to the doctor, so they had to give him painkillers and antibiotics to calm him down. They later discovered that the wound was caused by a bullet.

“Arthur is lucky to be alive. And that’s not an overstatement. He was shot between his eyes and appeared to be dead. But, Arthur is not dead. He crawled under the fence to a family farm and eventually found safety with us,” the PSPCA wrote.

An X-ray confirmed that Corgi had survived a gunshot wound. The bullet left a hole in the dog’s forehead and damaged his airway. He was also anemic and infested with fleas. It seems whoever shot him left him dead, but the strangers who found him saved his life.

Investigators tracked down Arthur’s owner, who said they trained him on cordless farm life when he went missing. The owner is not a suspect, but Arthur was not found far from his home, so someone living nearby may have done this to him.

A promising future

While the investigation continues, Arthur is recovering. He needs regular cleaning and ointment to help the wound on his head heal. So far, it’s healed well, but he still has shrapnel in his head and it may take a lot of care to get it out. Veterinarians are monitoring the wound to decide the next steps to take.

Despite everything he’s been through, Arthur is a happy, friendly boy. PSPCA staff members say that he loves everyone he meets and that he also loves chicken nuggets. So he is spoiled a lot with his favorite snack.

“He is such a happy guy. By the second day after waking up from the anesthetic, he gave us his wiggly little butt. Alicia Royer, PSPCA veterinarian at Main Line Animal Rescue, said.

Arthur’s owners turned him over to the PSPCA so they could make sure he recovered. They were devastated to hear what had happened to him, especially since it wasn’t an accident. Looks like someone took a close-range shot to kill him.

There are no updates available on the investigation, but if anyone has information they should call the PSPCA’s Humanitarian Law Enforcement team at 866-601-SPCA. Arthur may do well, but he still deserves justice for the pain he’s endured.
