‘The Beatles: Get Back’ may surprise even die-hard fans
One of the things that fascinated Stephen Colbert was how pianist Billy Preston became known as “The Fifth Beatle”.
In an interview about his late show aired on Thanksgiving, Colbert spoke with Peter Jackson, the director of the Beatles’ newly released documentaries.
They discuss Preston’s arrival on the keyboard with the iconic band, which includes John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
“He wasn’t even on the album,” Colbert said. “He was just a friend of George’s who stopped by.”
The “Album” is 1970’s “Let It Be”. The new documentary builds on sound and film from the 1970 documentary “Let It Be”.
“The Beatles: Get Back” explores Harrison’s departure from the band and McCartney taking on more leadership roles as John Lennon focuses on his marriage and work with Yoko Ono.
Jackson Talk to the Washington Post about working on the project.
“I tried to make a movie that was very realistic,” he said.
