The Alabama Channel vs. What channel is Georgia today? Time, TV schedule of SEC football championship 2021
As the clock ticks to 0:00 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, history may not be on Alabama’s side. The Crimson Tide will travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia in the SEC title game.
This is the 71st meeting between the two programs, and Alabama has won the last six, but this meeting holds more significance than in previous years. A loss would send Alabama into an 11-2 net and potentially be viewed from the outside into the College Football Playoff for the second time in three years.
THAN: Odds Alabama vs. Georgia, predictions for the 2021 SEC title game
In the history of the College Football League, no team has ever lost two games, which doesn’t bode well for Alabama if the Crimson Tide loses flops. However, everything is supposed to be the first. And there’s a feeling, at least among some in the world of college football, that if Alabama plays with Georgia close, it could be enough to send a losing two team into the playoffs for the first time ever.
Against this Georgia team, however, is easier said than done. Kirby Smart’s unit is playing one of the best defenses ever in college football. Bulldogs ranked first nationally for red zone defense (allowing scores only in 54.5% of opponents’ red zone trips), scoring defensively (6.92 points against defense per game) and all-round defense (230.8 meters allowed per game).
ADVICE: Jim McElwain details the relationship, which began between Saban and Smart
While Georgia excels on defense, Nick Saban’s unit excels on offense. Tide ranks second nationally for third, converting over 53.9% of attempts down to third. Similarly, they are fifth nationally for fouls (42.7 points per game) and seventh nationally in total fouls (492.2 yards per game).
The Bulldogs are looking for their first SEC title and playoff dock since 2017, when Kirby Smart’s team lost to Alabama 26-23 in extra time in a national championship game.
