The 2025 BMW 3 Series is more about technology, upgrading the chassis instead of changing the exterior

BMW car updated it 3 lines again, although this time you’ll hardly be able to tell from the outside.

The company is yet to confirm a launch date for the update in Australia.

In addition to new Arctic Race Blue and Fire Red metallic finishes and new optional 19-inch alloy wheel designs, the updated 3 Series – which goes into production in July – has the same exterior appearance. together.

Inside, the changes are similarly small at first glance: a new steering wheel design; new adjustable controls for the vents; a refined dashboard; and ‘cascading’ lighting integrated into the surround of the central vent.

There are four colors of Vernasca leather upholstery, three colors of Sensatec faux leather and, in some markets, standard black cloth trim.

There’s also new M Performancetex velvet upholstery.

Dark Graphite matte trim is standard, with Fineline Light and Gray Blue Ash open-pore wood options, as well as diamond-shaped aluminum and carbon fiber Anthracite inlay options.

Also optional are a gear selector, iDrive controller and a stop/start button on BMW’s CraftedClarity glass surround.

The infotainment system now uses BMW Operating System 8.5, with “optimized operation of ventilation and climate control functions”.

There’s also a “flatter” menu structure, customizable shortcut widgets on the driver’s side of the screen that connects to a fixed climate control bar at the bottom, and a home button also at the bottom.

Under the skin, BMW has retuned the 3 Series’ chassis for better ride and handling, with changes including stiffer mounting connecting the rear dampers to the body. .

BMW says there is “a significant increase in comfort in all driving situations… without sacrificing the usual dynamic capabilities of the 3 Series”, with more precise and composed handling.

The company also says less force is needed to turn the steering wheel in Comfort mode.

There continues to be a range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with all six-cylinder diesel and petrol engines featuring 48V mild hybrid technology.

BMW has also significantly updated the 330e plug-in hybrid model, which was discontinued locally earlier this year.

This uses a new, more energy-dense ‘Gen5’ high-voltage battery with 19.5kWh of usable energy, almost double the previous capacity, and now supports three-phase AC charging with up to up to 11kW.

Like the outgoing 330e, this version is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission with integrated electric motor, for a total system output of 215kW.

Depending on the 330e variant, the WLTP’s electric-only range is between 84km and 101km.

Other updates for Europe include the ability to pay for parking and fuel bills for vehicles.

BMW said that 1 in every 8 cars it supplies worldwide is the 3 Series, which accounts for up to 35% of its sales in some markets.

To date, the company has sold more than 20 million 3 Series vehicles globally, with nearly 3 million of these being current-generation models.

First put into production in 2018, the current generation 3 Series received a facelift in 2022. According to the report, is set to continue until 2027 when there is a replacement.
