Back in 2015, Amazon made waves with its first annual Prime Day shopping event. “You can’t just make up a shopping holiday!” people cried, but the sale still went on, statistically outperforming Black Friday and Cyber Monday for a number of years. It drives competitive sales and millions Amazon Prime Membership. And it’s happening again — sort of. Amazon has again Official date this year, named Prime Early Access Eventand runs from October 11 (starts at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET) through October 12.
As on Prime Day, many of the discounts will be exclusive to Amazon Prime members (This is a free 30-day trial; set a reminder to cancel before it auto-renew). However, as usual, the price reduction has already begun. We’ve rounded up the best Prime Day deals we’ve found right here — across Amazon and other retailers — and we’ll update this story ahead of the main event. Amazon device deals
Deals on Amazon Devices is a penny a dozen, but since Amazon recently revealed some new gadgets, we’re seeing discounts on older models. We’ve highlighted the best deals below, but you can Check out all Amazon device discounts here.
This is a low-priced match that we’ve only seen a few times. The Fire HD 10 (7/10, WIRED Recommend) To be Our favorite Amazon tablets. It’s best for light browsing, watching videos, or playing games, but it’s powerful enough to do some very light work tasks, especially if you pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard. There is no Google Play Store, but there is a solution to add it and access more apps. It’s hard to find another good tablet for such a cheap price. Echo Dot (4th Generation) do not have the watch went on sale for $25 earlier this week, but that deal has now expired. This model is essentially identical to the fourth-generation Echo Dot (8/10, WIRED Recommend)—It only has a display that shows what time it is so you don’t have to ask Alexa. This version was ours favorite Alexa speaker for a while, but Amazon announced fifth generation model with better sound if you want the latest and greatest. This fourth-generation model is still a great device. It’s small enough to fit into any room and the sound quality is good despite its size. You can set an alarm or timer, check the weather, listen to music or play Skyrim just with your voice.
Amazon recently refreshed the Fire HD 8 tablet and it Available for pre-order now, but if you’re looking for a cheap tablet, this previous generation Fire HD 8 is still a good choice. The travel-friendly size, combined with a reasonably powerful processor, makes it nearly as capable as its larger brother. It’s portable enough to take you anywhere, and its screen won’t torture your eyes as you watch Netflix. You can even use our guide on how to install Google Play Store to make it more capable than what’s currently available.
This is the best price we’ve tracked for the Echo Glow. It is a bad dawn alarm, but it is a good night light. It’s meant for kids, though it could work just as well in the living room, especially since the Alexa speaker can double sound machine. Controlling the light requires pairing it with an Echo device or the Alexa app.
Amazon Echo Show 8 is ours love the Alexa-enabled smart displayand the price makes it $5 cheaper than we saw this past Prime Day — historic lows. The 8-inch screen size is mostly useful, whether you’re following recipes or checking the weather. There’s a built-in camera with auto-zoom and panning for video calling or conferencing. Technology trading
Google Pixel 6A (8/10, WIRED Recommend) To be Our favorite Android phoneand it also earned our top pick as Best cheap phone. This deal matches the best discount we’ve ever seen. Even if it doesn’t go on sale, the Pixel 6A offers incredible value, with great performance, stellar cameras, impressive battery life, and a beautiful display. If you’re looking for a new smartphone, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better deal than this.
It costs a fortune. But it’s urgent! And believe it or not, that extra screen real estate is really cool. Android 12L also makes life on a larger screen easier thanks to improved multitasking. Battery life is good and you get a bright, smooth display – no creases when folded. This is the lowest price we’ve seen so far on this relatively new folding phone.
Less Samsung’s folding phone, the Z Flip4 feels like a “normal” phone when unfolded, but when folded and it slips into some seriously small pockets. It’s almost like a StarTak, but with a real screen. The battery should last you all day, but not longer. However, if you’re looking for a folding phone, this deal is the cheapest we’ve seen on this new model.
Apple iPad Mini 2021 (8/10, WIRED Recommend) looks like an iPad Pro with thinner bezels and a smaller 8.3-inch display. Its portable size makes it great for traveling. You can even fit it in cargo pants handbag.
The recently released Apple Watch Series 8 (8/10, WIRED Recommend) To be Our favorite Apple Watchand it was sold. (The 41 mm version is also on sale for $349.) Most people will be fine with the new second generation View SE, but this model includes an electrocardiogram, an always-on display, a skin temperature sensor for better cycle tracking, a more accurate heart rate monitor, and the ability to measure blood oxygen levels. Here’s the smaller, wired companion to our favorite Razer mouse, Razor Ultimate. Don’t let the “mini” name fool you — this is a standard sized mouse with very good accuracy. It’s a great cheap mouse if the one below is out of your budget.
TCL 6-Series (9/10, WIRED Recommend) to be The best TV for most people. It was $10 cheaper earlier in the week, but it’s still one of the best deals we’ve seen for the 55-inch size. The quantum dot panel means viewers will experience bright colors, deep blacks, and excellent contrast. This TV also has Roku is built right in for easy streaming. If you don’t need the latest and greatest, TCL 5-Series almost as good as the 6-Series — we recommend it for low-end TV shoppers — and All sizes are discounted. This deal price is above the previous discount we shared of $50. Everyone should have a soundbarand this model is one of the best out there. It has excellent sound quality for the price, and the included subwoofer adds depth with impressive bass. Transactions at home
Shipping adds $5, but even with those costs, it’s one of the better deals we’ve seen. Thermos flasks are very popular and we love them. This particular model is introduced in Best gifts for home cooks instructions, while a slightly more expensive thermometer from the brand is included in The best grilled food and Best grill accessories guide. Thermapen One gives a temperature reading in one second and the backlight allows for accurate temperature measurements even in the dark. It can be folded flat for easy storage.
We last saw a deal like this last December. Now is a good time to get in if you’ve missed it and you’re entering the market, although chances are it will be resold at this price at some point in the future. This classy (and expensive) espresso machine has a built-in burr grinder and hot water faucet. Just refill your beans and tap the digital screen to prepare drinks at home. There’s even a steam wand for easy latte and cappuccino making. These go on sale frequently during the holidays, but this is a solid price if you’re in the market and you don’t want to wait. I have this same brew machine on my desk. It’s great for those who live alone or don’t have much access space. Several colors are on sale. Refillable Pods make pod brewers more economical.
The free weight is one of the Best tool for home exerciseand various weights of these AmazonBasics dumbbells are being sold at historically low prices. We haven’t tested these ourselves, but they generally have good customer reviews. Some reviews mention that the rubber has a bad smell on arrival, but a few days of ventilation won’t smell if it arises. Note that these are sold individually, so you’ll need to add two to your cart if you’re looking to purchase a pair.
