November is a time to give thanks – and a day set aside to give special thanks to our dogs. Dogs – who are always by our side from thick to thin – love us unconditionally. That’s definitely something to be thankful for!

Why I’m grateful for our dogs
We are approaching the holidays, a season of love and laughter and most especially of thanks for everything we have in life. In our home, a lot of our thanks goes to our dogs and cats. Our dogs and cats make our family complete and make our days a joy of the year.
I want to look at 10 of the many reasons I’m grateful for our dogs every day!
The joy of unconditional love
Having a bad hair day? Too busy with house cleaning? Well, the dogs don’t care. They love us no matter what.
Joy in simple pleasures
Our dogs take pleasure in the simplest pleasures: rolling in the grass, wading in the creek, and sitting on the porch. They inspired me to do the same.
Family fun
Our dogs love nothing better than just hanging out with members of their family, whether it’s us, each other, or our cats. Family takes the lead with these two.
The joy of meeting new people
I have to admit that sometimes I’m a bit shy when it comes to meeting new people – but our dogs, especially Tiki, just LOVE meeting new people.
Along with the dogs on our travels, I have had the opportunity to meet many dog-loving friends and have always found that conversation comes easily when there is a four-legged subject standing in front of us.
Joy in the rescue
Every day, our dogs remind me of all the wonderful pets that await permanent homes in shelters and rescues everywhere – like our Ochi in Austin Pets Alive when we adopted him from the ringworm ward.
The joy of exercise
I must confess that sometimes I get caught up in work and find it difficult to get away from my computer. Our dogs never fail to remind me when it’s time for them to go for a walk twice a day.
Even so, since all the benefits they offer are exercise and a consistent schedule in their lives, I know that I am the one who gets the most benefit from walks. with our dog. Not only did it get me up and moving, but it also reminded me to stop and enjoy the world around me. My phone is still in my pocket and I cherish this quiet time with the dogs on our walking trail.
Meal joy
Thanksgiving is without a doubt one of my favorite meals of the year, but, like Irie and Tiki, I want to maintain an appreciation for that mealtime throughout the year. Barli finds joy in every meal and every do-it-yourself treatmentno matter how simple.
The joy of slowing down
In this digital age, life can be very hectic – too busy. Our dogs know that the best things in life don’t come with screens or keyboards. They inspire me to unplug, slow down, and just enjoy the moment.
The joy of travel
John and I have spent two decades traveling and living on planes and in hotel rooms. I have to admit I’ve been a bit confused about our travels at times – but our dogs have reminded me of the sheer joy of discovery when visiting a new destination, whether it’s one relax on the beach or a new pocket park. Unlike my worries about long check-in lines, flight delays or traffic jams, our dogs just find joy in new sights and smells.
Joy in the house
And for all their love of travel, our dogs love nothing more than just to enjoy their home, whether it’s a lazy morning on the couch, an afternoon in the office. room, or hiking in the woods around our house. They are a great reminder to me, especially during this busy time of year, that there really is no place like home.
It’s something to be grateful for – no matter the season!
