“As of end-July 2024, Tesla has successfully installed 52 250kW Superchargers, 54 AC Wall Connectors and over 4,500 home chargers in Peninsular Malaysia. With an investment of US$13.5 million (RM59 million), Tesla demonstrates its strong commitment to the development of EV charging infrastructure in our country,” he wrote in his post.

“We also discussed the huge potential of battery energy storage technology, which is expected to contribute to improving the energy efficiency and stability of Malaysia’s power grid. This technology has the potential to reduce energy costs and strengthen our national energy infrastructure,” he added.

“In addition, Tesla also emphasized its support for the local ecosystem by engaging nine Malaysian companies in the development of EV charging infrastructure as well as collaborating with local higher education institutions for knowledge transfer and human resource development. This collaboration is expected to position Malaysia as a major green technology hub in the region,” he said.

However, Zafrul did not reveal whether he raised the issue of whether the electric vehicle maker ever had plans to build a manufacturing plant in Southeast Asia.
