Tesla tops 10% of market share in California – one-eighth of electric vehicle maker’s total global deliveries

No exaggeration, they are everywhere. Tesla grew to 10.5% market share in California in the fourth quarter of the year, and it maintains a total market share of 6.5% in California for all of 2021, compared with 2.1% for the entire United States.
The figures are part of a quarterly report released last week by California New Auto Dealers Association. According to the Q4 report, as of 2021, Tesla registrations have increased by nearly 70% from 2020 to 2021.

That amounts to a total of 121,080 new Teslas registered in California in 2021. Review Tesla Delivers Worldwide of approximately 308,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2021 and about 936,000 vehicles for the full year, California registered 39,040 and 121,080 registrations in the state, respectively, during those two periods.
So in both periods, California still accounts for about one-eighth of Tesla’s global market.
Even though the Model 3 overtook the Prius—and Corolla and Camry, individually—On the sales charts, Toyota was the only Tesla brand that didn’t sell well in California in the fourth quarter. But it outsold even a longtime chart-topper in the state: Honda.

Furthermore, German luxury brands lag behind Tesla. It outsold Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche combined in the fourth quarter, according to dealer data — a trend also happening at the national levelalbeit on a smaller scale.
It’s a feat for an automaker with four models, with one of those models, the Model X, delivered at a reduced rate.
