  • The rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model 3 Long Range is back
  • The Model 3 Long Range starts at $42,490, $5,000 cheaper than the AWD version.
  • Tesla says the Model 3 Long Range can travel 363 miles—2 miles more than the Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE

Tesla has added one more long range rear wheel drive version of the Model 3 update$5,000 cheaper than the all-wheel-drive Long Range model.

First discovered by ReutersThe new rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model 3 Long Range appeared in the automaker’s online configurator on Thursday with Base price is $42,490 before the destination. Tesla claims a range of 363 miles, compared to 341 miles for the $47,490 all-wheel-drive Model 3 Long Range or 358 miles for the previous Model 3 Long Range.

That gives the rear-wheel-drive Long Range version the longest range of any current Model 3, and the longest range ever.

It also undercuts the market leader in the US, the Hyundai Ioniq 6, in both price and range. The 2024 Ioniq 6 SE starts at $43,600 and is EPA-rated to have a range of 361 miles—though Tesla uses a different adjustment factor for its range ratings, which could mean the Ioniq 6 still has the edge in real-world range.

The single-motor powertrain gives the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 Long Range an estimated 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds—about a second faster than the Ioniq 5 SE—and a top speed of 125 mph.

Tesla has launched the upgraded version of Model 3, codenamed “Highland” of the automaker, in the United States in January. The refresh brings revised exterior styling, a quieter cabin and added convenience features like cooled front seats, dual wireless device charging and an 8.0-inch rear display for passengers. Tesla also removed most of the physical controls, forcing drivers to rely more on the 15.4-inch touchscreen.

In the United States, the Model 3 Highland was initially offered in base rear-wheel drive form (Price $38,990 before destination) in addition to the long-range all-wheel drive configuration. Model 3 Performance back in April, boasting adaptive suspension, a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, and a base price of $52,990 (it has since risen to $54,990). So the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 Long Range brings the Highland variant count to four.
