Tesla’s latest round dismissal has shaken both the auto industry and the company’s stockholders. Sales decreased forced the automaker to cut 10% of its total staff. Its left side is wider confused workers when they try to make heads or tails call for help looks pretty shabby. One Tesla department that was suddenly laid off was the entire Supercharger team, about 500 people. And as Inside known, the cuts also affect some planned Supercharging sites.

According to an anonymous source and real estate documents seen by Insideeevs, four Supercharge locations in New York City – College Point, Queens, South Bronx, South Brooklyn and two in Maspeth – have been canceled. Of these, only Maspeth is said to be close to being ready to handle DC fast charging. Previously, Tesla expanded access to DC fast charging in the city. There’s also no word on whether existing locations in the city will be affected.

The move to eliminate the Supercharge group causes Tesla to take a step back on the charging front, making nearly everyone wary. Many, including the Biden administration, are counting on the grid to support the electric vehicle transition.

In a tweet, Musk confirmed that the company will slow down the expansion of its Supercharger network; There will be fewer new locations and a greater focus on charger uptime and expanding existing Supercharger locations. The move will also see some of the fired Supercharger team members rehired according to a source speaking to Bloomberg.

The move will slow the network’s growth, according to a person familiar with the department, who requested anonymity to discuss privacy matters. There have been discussions about rehiring some of those affected to operate the existing network and grow it at a much slower pace, the person said.

This follows reports since earlier this year that NYC Supercharger sites were often congested and backed up, according to Electricity And Tesla owners’ forums are packed with cries for more crime in the Big Apple. The main problem is that ride-sharing fleets are pushing drivers to use electric cars. This results in a lot of electric vehicles but not enough chargers. Tesla promised more chargers by early April, so this is the quick face of the company. There is also growing concern about what this means for other planned Supercharger sites across the country as pointed out by Insideevs. Whatever happens, hopefully Tesla has no plans to recall any more Supercharge locations. The loss of even more acceleration sites could actually hinder mass electric vehicle adoption in the US
