You probably know the feeling. You drop something, a pin, a socket, a shotgun shell, into your engine compartment. First you look. Do you see it? No. Then you stick one of those little magnetic recovery things down where you think the object might have fallen out. It sticks to everything else, but you can’t pull your object out. Damn it. You look under the car. Does it pop out? No. Now you have to ask, “Is it near anything that could be damaged? Can I just… Leave it there?” You can’t. You’re in Hell.
In the case of this poor man who is suffering from a Mini, none of that needs to be considered. They were screwed from the start and they knew it. The car… well, the whole car, is falling apart. Let’s follow along:
Was the opening of the video staged? Maybe. But I think we can forgive it because it’s hard to imagine the rest of the video, where the anonymous, uncredited mechanic took apart almost everything including the transmission and most of the electrical components to get at the tiny drill bit extension that was inside the cam chain cover. Hell.
Be careful down there. I had to be there with that magnet for a week before I got this far.
