Suzuki Avenis 125 lands in Australia and we set off on a trip
suzuki avenis 125
Although we recently received an ‘advanced screening’ of amazing kids Suzuki V-Strom 250 SXwe also got the chance to review a second mini zoo that we think some people would be interested in as well, the Avenis 125 scooter.
Quite a stylish little unit, it adds to Suzuki’s existing line of scooters, alongside the Address 110. Thrust is provided by a tested air-cooled 9hp single-cylinder engine. proof. I say it’s well proven because they built five million of them.. Let’s just say they’ve sorted it out 🙂 It’s fuel-injected, Euro 5 compliant and of course is combined with CVT gearbox. No need to swap gears here, just screw and run.
And while those 9 hp may not sound like much to some, it’s on par with or better than anything else on the market in the 125 cc segment in terms of power and/or acceleration. It won’t set any land speed records, but my short journey around Melbourne has shown it to be capable enough to hold its ground in the regular grand prix traffic lights on commuting.
It’s certainly roomy and comfortable enough, with two front storage compartments, one with a USB charging point and of course a must-have storage area under the seat. In this case, the volume under the seat is quoted as 21 liters and looks quite large. It should fit a half helmet comfortably but I suppose as with any scooter you’ll want to try a full face helmet just to be sure.
That seat height is both comfortable and nice and low, I can easily prop both feet on the ground, which makes it even more user-friendly. Easy to move around for press photography.
The wheels are stylish alloys and come with linked brakes that work very well and overall, the feel is certainly nimble enough to be a pleasure to ride around town. I don’t stretch my legs much but I’m not sure if you want to do a lot of work at this over 80km/h. It’s certainly an urban outlook.
It comes with a 5.2-liter fuel tank, which again doesn’t sound like much but it promises to be very frugal on the go given that Suzuki has packed quite a bit of tech into it under the name (and by name). ) ‘Eco performance’ . So I guess the ~150 km-ish range wouldn’t be out of the question.
Up front, you’ve got a nice stacked LED headlight setup and I quite like the LCD display that includes current and average fuel consumption. There’s also a handy eco light that comes on if I’m sensible and saves juice.
A wide range of accessories are available including hand guards and accessory bars so you can personalize your Avenis to suit your needs. All in all, I think it would be a perfect choice for people living in town. The commute won’t cost anything.
And the best part? Price. You’ll get yourself one of these cars for $4900 on the road. Less than five thousand out the door! Amazing value. They will come in large numbers later this month (January) and Suzuki is offering free bike hoods and hand guards to those who pre-order.
