A Melbourne woman was spotted driving her Mazda CX-9 on just three tires in Melbourne’s northwest on Thursday, with police alleging she was drunk.
Victoria Police said a number of motorists contacted Triple 0 after the vehicle was seen driving on a drum rim along the Calder Highway at about 3.20pm.
Police later found the car at the 53-year-old primary school teacher’s address in Essendon.
The driver accompanied police to the police station, where she was breathalyzed and reportedly returned a blood alcohol level of 0.139.
The car was impounded for 30 days with costs valued at $913.70, Victoria Police said she would be charged on summons with drink driving and traffic offences.
“She didn’t seem to pay attention, or didn’t want to communicate with anyone, just looking straight ahead,” a witness recounted. 7News.
“My wife tried to say ‘Sorry, sorry’ but she was completely silent and ignored us.”
The witness said she eventually stopped at Bottlemart, where she allegedly bought a bottle of vodka. Another witness followed her home, where police caught up with her.
A similar incident happened in Orange County in the US state of California last year, when a woman was found driving on the highway with three wheels and the trunk open.
A nearby motorist recorded the incident, capturing him trying to get her attention but she mistook it for a wave.
The driver said KTLA5 that he and another driver moved in front of the woman to slow down and steer her off the freeway.
When he caught up with the Audi driver, he questioned her about what she was doing and why she was driving recklessly.
