Ducati 200MX 1960 | A Ducati motorcycle!
Ducati 200MX 1960
With Phil Aynsley
Ducati’s occasional interest in off-road machines can be traced back to the very rare 175/200MX bikes built in 1959/60.
Only about 30 pieces in total (of both types) were produced (or more precisely, handcrafted to order), making them one of the rarest Ducatis.
The frame is a bespoke item that features a dual loop underneath the motor and serious bracing around the head and footrest mounts.
An additional brace connects the upper rear shock mount to the rear fender. The swingarm is also much stronger than those commonly found on single Ducatis.
The wheels measure 21 inches up front and 19 inches at the rear, and the front forks even have an air stabilizer. Very advanced for this stage!
The 180mm diameter conical alloy brake calipers are also unique to these bikes.
The 203 cc engine has a compression ratio of 8.5:1 and uses a Dell’Orto SS27A carburetor. Power output is 19 hp at 7800 rpm and a weight of 124 kg.
The bike seen here is a restored 1960’s 200MX
