SUV coupe pioneer BMW is killing off one of its SUV coupe models – report

Gasoline and diesel engines BMW X4 – coupe-inspired version of the best-selling model X3 SUV – is on its way out, but there are reports that an electric replacement is in the works.

Based on Bimmerpost Forum user ynguldyn – who previously compiled an exact timeline for the model from BMW insiders – says the current X4 will end production in November 2025.

However, as reported in 2022 and ynguldyn reaffirmed, there will be an electric alternative version.

The model will reportedly be called the iX4 and go into production from November 2026, with production expected to last until mid-2034.

The Bimmerpost Users report there may even be a performance version of the iX4 M, although this remains unknown.

It is likely that the upcoming iX4 will be based on BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse electric vehicle (EV) platform, which is expected to debut on the upcoming iX3 due in July 2025.

The BMW X4 has been sold globally for two generations, with the first version launched in 2014, followed by the current model launched in 2018.

In Australia, there is a clear difference in popularity between the X3 and X4.

Since the first X4s arrived in Australia in June 2014, BMW has sold 12,050 locally. Over the same period, it has sold more than 40,000 X3s.
