The luxury hotel market in New York City is growing — later this year, a new property on the Upper East Side will transform the affluent neighborhood, catering to wealthy travelers looking for an upscale hotel.
Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel, is now accepting reservations for stays from September 1 onwards. We’ve had our eye on this hotel for a while and it even made it onto our list Most anticipated hotels opening in 2024.
This property is conveniently located on East 76th Street near beautiful Central Park and all the shopping opportunities that Madison Avenue has to offer. The Surrey Hotel originally dates back to 1926 and has been a favorite of the rich, famous, and powerful over the years. Celebrities such as John F. Kennedy and Bette Davis were known to be frequent guests.
While it’s a historic property with plenty of old-school charm, The Surrey is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation and modernization. It will be Corinthia’s only hotel in the United States — but it certainly won’t lose any of the luxurious amenities or services the European brand is known for.
When it opens, The Surrey will feature 70 guest rooms, 14 private rooms and 30 suites, four of which will feature unique layouts and décor inspired by the bridges of Central Park. The interior redesign is being overseen by Martin Brudnizki, the award-winning firm behind other iconic New York hotels such as The BeekmanFifth Avenue Hotel and Fouquet’s New York Hotel.
In addition to the accommodations, Casa Tua, the on-site restaurant, will delight New York City visitors and Upper East Side residents alike. Casa Tua will be the first New York outpost of the Miami-based Italian culinary empire.

Surrey will also be home to a small but impressive spa designed by Advanced MedAesthetic Partners (aka AMP). The spa will feature two treatment rooms, a steam room, a sauna and a gym.
How to book: Room rates start at $1,200 a night for a 366-square-foot Deluxe King room and $2,150 for a 506-square-foot Junior Suite.
Earlier this year, Warren Street Hotel, another New York City hotel on our list of the most exciting hotel openings of 2024, began welcoming guests. Located in Tribeca, Warren Street Hotel Offering a mixed aesthetic with a variety of textures and patterns, it contrasts beautifully with the clean, crisp lines of The Surrey (and indeed many other hotels across town).
This goes to show that in a city as diverse as New York, there’s room for every type of traveler… especially those on a budget.
