Surprise! Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is out now on PC

Earlier this year, Black Isle Studios and Interplay Entertainment announced they were porting the old 2001 hack and slash Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance for PC and console. It launched on PlayStation in the summer, although they didn’t give a date for PC. But, what a surprise! That is today! PC users can finally try Baldur’s Gate that console users first experienced 20 years ago. I played it all over this summer and had a great time, at the expense of my partner, who I invited to sit through one of the funniest couch co-op games left. exist.

To be perfectly clear, I love Dark Alliance. It is an action RPG set in Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms, and follows three heroes who take on an evil warrior attempting to destroy the city of Baldur’s Gate using a control tower. elements. Classic fantasy.

On Steam, the game supports Remote Play so you can do some two-player co-op over long distances. I highly recommend playing it with a friend, the characters aren’t really designed to be played alone (much like D&D), and it’s more fun to drag a friend along.

However, it is worth mentioning that this is a port of a 20 year old game that was pretty shabby 20 years ago. The leveling system is not very balanced, the bosses in normal mode are damage sponges that will shoot you one shot, the weapons and armor are pretty ugly, and there are long passages where you just have to slap Enemies through seemingly never-ending dungeons.

Like, it’s a great game that I absolutely love and I totally think it’s worth trying – if only if they eventually ported the sequel to PC you’d have some basic information on the story. story. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 improves upon the first part a lot, with tighter level designs, more interesting story rhythms, and loads more customization (my favorite is the enchanted weapon by use gems you find in the world). I really Actually hope they move that, it was one of the first games i ever played.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is now available on PC, via Sauna, GOG and Epic game store, priced at £30 / €30 / $30. It’s also out on new consoles, if you will.
