Surface Maintenance Pimlico Dirt will begin April 17
The Jockey Club of Maryland has confirmed that maintenance work on dirt surfaces at Pimlico racetrack will begin on Easter Sunday, April 17, with plans to reopen the track for practice on Wednesday, April 20.
MJC Acting President and General Manager Mike Rogers said favorable weather forecasts would allow the project to proceed at a preferred time rather than next week. The track maintenance team annually inspected the surface of Pimlico before the race in May and last year repaired the base in specific areas.
Traditionally, there is no training on Easter Sunday in Pimlico and Laurel Park. Previously, Director Rogers and Track Director Chris Bosley said the project, which includes examining the repairs made to the Pimlico surface last spring, will take about three days.
The Pimlico Spring Encounter begins on May 8 and ends on May 31.
