A crossover between Monster Super Energy and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross looks natural. Most professional riders and teams compete in both championships each season, and the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) sanctions apply to both series. There just a roadblock though: Championships have different promoters. The two sides have now agreed to host a joint playoff series with a ridiculous name, and I absolutely love it.

The SuperMotocross World Championship will be a three-stage playoff series held in partnership between Feld Motor Sports, Inc. and MX Sports Pro Racing, the promoters of Supercross and Motocross, respectively. SuperMotocross will be a post-season competition after both Supercross and Motocross have identified their own champions and entry to this knockout will be determined by the performance of the regular season. The top 22 riders in combined championship points in both the 450cc and 250cc classes will qualify for the SuperMotocross series of their class.

These riders will then compete in two SuperMotocross playoffs leading up to the World Finals at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on October 14, 2023. They will race for $10 million, the largest in history. this sport. The SuperMotocross series will be held on uniquely designed courses that require the skills of both sides of off-road racing. It should come as no surprise to see mixed races with the technical parts and big jumps of Supercross combined with the high-speed running aspects of Motocross.

Kenneth Feld, President and CEO of Feld Entertainment, Inc., said:

“With the establishment of the SuperMotocross World Championship, we are taking an important step towards evolving the sport into a sport more relevant to the expanding global market and its impact on the world. our fans and sponsors. As media and technology continue to evolve, SuperMotocross will be able to leverage these innovations to reach new audiences and grow exponentially in the years to come.”

Carrie Coombs-Russell, CEO, MX Sports Pro Racing, added:

“We are celebrating 50 years of American Motocross this season, and the establishment of the SuperMotocross World Championship and our partnership with Supercross could be one of the most significant changes the sport has ever made. This partnership will create the only off-road racing series on the planet that offers a fully supported infrastructure, from amateur to professional development, so that global competitors can race on the roads. The world’s toughest and most challenging race. “

SuperMotocross will be a spectacular finale to the season as the Supercross season typically runs from January to early May, followed by Pro Motocross from late May to early September.
