Sunny Edwards is an impressive fighter – a very impressive fighter. The IBF flyweight champion overcame challenger Felix Alvarado on Friday in Sheffield, England in a performance reminiscent of some of the sport’s more notable athletes. 19-0 Edwards has never shown any real danger, although there’s no doubt the aggressive 38-2 Alvarado has had his moments. Suffice it to say, the judges all ruled in Edwards’ favor with scores 115-113, 116-12 and 115-113.
“Every time I fight, I’m trying to test myself,” Edwards said after the game. “Felix Alvarado is an incredible puncher, so if I can sit there and work with him and I’ve shown that I can, I’ve shown that I can shoot, capture and re-throw shots. hit my own, I can do it with anyone. . He’s a very, very tough puncher there, but I won’t be turned down.”
With another Alvarado game, Edwards has made it clear that he is now looking to the future. “I want the big fights,” Edwards declared. “Martinez, he’s scared, Bam Rodriguez, who promised me the next fight, come and get it.”
