This week marks the launch of Nintendo Switch Sports – the sequel to the popular Wii Sports title released in 2006.
The latest entry brings together six sports released and will allow players to enjoy them both locally and online. If you used Nintendo Life today, you may have already seen our review process as the online functionality is still unavailable.
That hasn’t stopped other stores from lowering a number in their reviews, though, so keeping this in mind, here’s a roundup of some of the reviews so far. Keep in mind that one of these reviews is still in progress.
Starts with IGNit gave the game 7/10 stars – note how it took back the fun of Wii Sports, but ultimately lacked depth:
“Nintendo Switch Sports, like the Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort before it, is best played as a party game, for any gathering that needs a quick burst of goofy, dynamic fun. While A sparse mix of old and new sports that differ in quality, Switch Sports largely places emphasis on what made its predecessor so memorable: intuitive motion controls, the ability to ability to get a group of people up and moving easily, and some killer menu music that can keep you listening all day. Just don’t “I didn’t expect to spend a lot of time on it before the novelty. disappear.”
NME giving it 4/5 stars – stating how hard the game’s value is to be contested:
“Nintendo Switch Sports Bringing a series of beloved movies to modern platforms with aplomb. While some minigames are slightly weaker than others, a few stand out impressively – Chambara and Football in particular – delivering particularly good times. Better, Nintendo Switch Sports‘The £31 price tag is cheaper than most Nintendo games and that kind of value is hard to argue with. “
Dexerto just like taken with it, giving it an 8.5 out of 10:
“Nintendo Switch Sports does the impossible – it builds on Wii Sports in clever ways, creating a new version for a new generation while also breathing life into the competition smoldering for more than a decade. It’s been a great performer for the Switch and is easily one of the platform’s best games – if you have friends to play with.”
Wccftech not very impressed giving 6.5 out of 10 games:
“Nintendo Switch Sports is a fun and nostalgic game that offers nicely upscaled visuals and well-implemented motion controls, but simply isn’t enough. With a meager six (only) sports there are two of them that bring anything really new to the table) and very few extras, which probably won’t catch your attention in the long run.”
And Reviews of GameSpot still in progress, but it’s now crashing 7/10:
“Playing alone for long periods of time is boring and monotonous, and the lack of certain single-player modes is a big oversight. But Nintendo Switch Sports is a great multiplayer game, the part big, invite everyone and everyone to participate, pick up the controller and wiggle their arms around. It’s problematic, but they go away when you have other people playing with you and having fun playing virtual sports. The original Wii Sports, Nintendo Switch Sports find beauty and joy in simplicity. And bowling is great. Better than real-life bowling.”
