Also on display at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) is Subaru Crosstrek. The third generation model, formerly known as XVwas launched there last year as the sole 2.0iS EyeSight. Fully imported from Japan, the car retails for 549,500,000 rupiah (RM159,100).

That gets you the same naturally aspirated, direct-injected 2.0-litre FB20 flat-four as before, producing 156PS at 6,000rpm and 196Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. It’s mated to a Lineartronic CVT and Subaru’s signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with Active Torque Split, plus a unique off-road-biased X-Mode that will be familiar to owners of previous XVs.

Still built on the Subaru Global Platform, the Crosstrek still has a much more distinctive design than the car it replaces, led by slim LED headlights that are connected by a chrome bar. These lights flank a large hexagonal grille and sit above large C-shaped bumper corners that are molded in black plastic – a material that can also be found on the angular wheel arch trim and angular rear bumper.

You also get C-shaped LED taillights, rugged-looking roof rails, and 18-inch two-tone turbine-style alloy wheels. Inside, the Crosstrek shares a lot in common with the latest WRXalthough it does not have the car’s sportier features such as Alcantara trim, a large steering wheel and sports seats. The center console is also different, perhaps with more storage space.

The WRX’s base dashboard comes with a new 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though you still get analog gauges. Other standard features include power front seats (with lumbar adjustment for the driver) and a sunroof.

As the trim level name suggests, the Crosstrek gets the EyeSight driver assistance suite, which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist, collision-avoidance steering assist, rear AEB, and a camera-based driver attention monitor. Nine airbags, including center airbags and seat cushion airbags to prevent collisions, are also included.

With the Crosstrek already launched in most ASEAN markets, all eyes are on the remaining country that still doesn’t have the car, Malaysia. The car will be the first to arrive here after Subaru announced end all local CKD assembly operations in Southeast Asiaincluding in Malaysia. Therefore, the price is expected to increase above the current XV’s RM149,788.
