Style surprise: Outbox Tsendbaatar Erdenebat Edy Valencia
By: Sean Crose
Tsendbaatar Erdenebat, the undefeated Los Angeles – by way of Mongolia – junior lightweight set his undefeated 5-0 record on Thursday night when he faced Edy Valencia 20-9- 6 in a scheduled eight inning. The match was televised live on DAZN from Manhattan’s Sony Theater as part of the Broadway Boxing tag. Erdenebat tried to deliver sharp, decisive punches from the beginning of the match.
Both men were quick and sharp in the first few rounds, but Erdenebat seemed to have the edge thanks to his excellent footwork. The man’s move and stick strategy is both versatile and impressive. In the middle of the game, it was clear that Valencia would have to do something impressive to change the game. Indeed, the hard-hitting Erdenebat seems to be simply knocking out his man for rounds and experience rather than trying for a third straight knockout.
As the innings progressed, Erdenebat continued to play Ali with Valencia’s Liston, moving around and often making it difficult for him to land. The truth is that Valencia was never able to really catch up and slow his men down significantly enough to carry all night (although he’s been strong the last few innings). Needless to say, Erdenebat took the win from the referee’s scoreboard.
