Stranger stepped in to save the dog that was intentionally dragged behind the car
When some people spot a Pit Bull mix being dragged behind a moving vehicle in Ohio, they know they must act fast. There was no doubt in their minds that the act was blatant animal abuse. If those good Samaritans had not witnessed the horrifying event and reported it, the dog would have died from its wounds.
The dog is currently on the road to recovery, but he is friendly and upbeat, considering everything he’s been through. No dog should ever experience trauma like this, and it’s heartbreaking that animal abusers are rarely punished severely.
The dog was dragged down the street
The vehicle drove 35 mph for at least 100 yards while the dog known as Oreo was chained to the back and dragged behind. When the car stopped, the driver leash the dog outside. But fortunately, some people witnessed the abuse and called the Youngstown Police Department.
Ohio’s Animal Charity went to Oreo and assessed her wound. She broke two toes in each foot, and all of her feet were peeling. She also had a road rash on her stomach, broken several fingernails and scratches on all her legs. So rescuers are doing everything they can to help her recover.
“Despite the terrible abuse Oreo just endured, she wagged her tail and wanted to be detained. We will continue to monitor her throughout the day, she is currently resting comfortably with pain medication and antibiotics on board,” Ohio’s Animal Charity wrote on Facebook.
Rescue helps heal canines
Oreo still has a lot of wounds ahead of her, but for now, she’s enjoying being rescued. She’s getting all the attention while she’s getting her medication and treatment. Her foot still hurts to move on, that’s understandable. Therefore, members of the rescue team arranged a place for the girl to be comfortable.
“She was taken out to the potty and then returned to rest. We are closely monitoring her injury and pain levels, her medication adjusted as needed to keep her as comfortable as possible,” the rescuer wrote.

Charges are pending, but many dog lovers hope the person responsible will be severely punished. No dog deserves to go through that, especially without a pet as sweet and cuddly as Oreo.
The rescue has not yet mentioned whether Oreo will be available for adoption. However, there is still a lot Dogs adopted at the shelter need a house too!
