Bannon arrived at the FBI Washington field office in a black SUV shortly before 9:40 a.m. He was met by a media mob and appeared defiant as he spoke to TV cameras outside the building, saying, “We’re taking down the Biden regime.”
Bannon, 67, was charged last week with one count related to his refusal to appear for removal and another count related to his refusal to provide documents to the investigative committee. He is expected to appear in court on Monday afternoon. The case was referred to District Judge Carl Nichols, who was appointed by Trump.
Moments before turning around on Monday, Bannon went live on social media and told his supporters to “focus.”
“I don’t want anyone to take their eyes off what we do every day, OK,” Bannon told the camera for the “WarRoom” online show.
“I want you to focus on the message,” he added before entering the FBI office. “Thanks a lot.”
In October, the House of Representatives’ January 6 committee subpoenaed Bannon’s documents and testimony but his attorney, Robert Costello, said he would not cooperate with the investigation because he was not directed by Trump religion.
Costello also pointed to Trump’s claim that the documents sought were protected under executive privilege and told the committee that “executive privileges belong to President Trump” and that his request for executive privilege he must be “honored.”
The White House counsel’s office told Costello it would not support Bannon’s refusal to testify. Biden’s White House has refused to confirm executive privilege regarding documents and witnesses related to the US Capitol riots.
