Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares says a $25,000 Jeep EV will soon come to the US told CNBC and other media at the Bernstein investor conference last week.
“If you asked me what an affordable BEV is, I would say 20,000 euros in Europe and $25,000 in the US,” Tavares said at a conference held before last week’s meeting. Wagoneer S launched. “So our job is to bring safe, clean and affordable BEVs to America for $25,000. We will do it.”
Stellantis is already selling the 20,000-euro Citroën e-C3 in Europe, Tavares said, claiming that the automaker is “using the same expertise” that brought that EV to market to match at that price of a Jeep in the US market.
Jeep revenge
Stellantis is currently selling an all-electric version of the Jeep revenge in Europe it costs 35,000 euros, or about $37,800, CNBC notes. Jeep has decided not to sell the Avenger, which is smaller than any current model in the US market, in this region. There was also talk of selling more internal combustion versions than originally expected in Europe.
Jeep has so far focused on plug-in hybrids in the US. The Wrangler 4xe is the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the US, followed by the Grand Cherokee 4xe, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa reiterated this week. And Jeep recently confirmed a 4xe Gladiator plug-in hybrid pickup truck.
The Wagoneer S EV will have a base price of more than $70,000. It is expected to be followed by the Wrangler-like Recon, which was initially announced as a pure electric vehicle but is said to also have a hybrid powertrain option.

Tavares at the end of 2021 said that Electric vehicles cost the company 50% more than internal combustion vehicles are produced, calling it “beyond the limits” of what the industry can sustain because the added costs are too high to pass on to customers.
