Valve has launched another Steam Labs Experiment, this time focusing on “Store Hub”. If you join Steam Labs Experiment 13, Steam’s tag and category pages will be updated to more clearly highlight personalized game recommendations with richer information about each game.
You can participate in the test by click this link while signed in to Steam in your browser or by opening a link in Steam’s own web browser. Then try visiting the category or tag page to see the changes.
Right at the top of those pages, you’ll now see a carousel of personalized game recommendations that includes a small trailer, release date, review score, and more about the game. It’s a better way to make a decision on a proposal than just some screenshots. If I press Genre JRPG, I got a hot offer for Super Robot Wars 30 and, uh, FFXIV. Let’s skip that later currently not available for purchase.
Scroll down those pages and you’ll find other new additions. There is now a shelf showing recent and upcoming events, allowing you to see news and updates for games in that category. Games from your favorites list are also listed, and the full list of games in that category at the bottom can now be filtered using tools introduced in a previous test. . That includes the ability to filter games based on features and tags.
Not every Steam Lab Experiment has been adopted as a permanent feature, but some have, gradually, made it easier to find games in Steam’s growing library. Experiment 13 isn’t a huge change, but it’s a decent set of additions that make it a bit easier to see what’s new with a particular type of game.
