Spirit’s own app and website blamed for major delays
It seems like spirit airline only one blame yourself is the reason for almost 90 percent of it flights are delayed on Thursday. According to a tweet from Spirit at 8:44 a.m. ThursdayA technical issue has affected the low-cost airline’s website and mobile app, bringing operations to a halt.
NBC News reported that an email statement from the airline was sent at 10:44 a.m. — two hours later — and it said the issue had been resolved.
“We resolved a network issue between third-party services that affected our website, mobile apps, and some of our internal apps,” Spirit told NBC News in an email. “We apologize for any delays and inconveniences, and we are currently working to return to normal operations.”
The outlet reports that a flight tracking website shows that less than 24 percent of all Spirit flights did indeed depart on time at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, but then things took a turn for the worse. By about noon on the same day, about 90 percent of all Spirit delayed flights, and that’s if you’re lucky. About three percent of Spirit flights were canceled altogether.
Also according to that website, Pulse of Anuvu, only 50 per cent of Spirit flights departed on time as of 10am today – about 24 hours since the technical problem first occurred. 2.65 percent of all Spirit flights have been canceled to date.
It’s a less than ideal thing start the Summer travel season if your app and website crashes on the first of June. Yes, I know June 1 technically not the first day of Summer, but to my stupid brain it is. The industry is doing its best to avoid the mess that has happened summer travel season in 2022.
It’s going to be a tough task if you consider that NBC says the Transportation Security Administration has reported that screening volumes in 2023 have surpassed 2019 levels – before the pandemic -.
