The most unique aspect of Spigen Slim Armor Pro is a hinge guard that covers the long hinge of the Z Fold 4 in the closed position. Samsung’s phone hardware covers the hinge when in the fully open position, but when the phone is carried around and using an external display, the hinge is prone to damage from drops. This hinge is critical to the usability of the device itself so protecting it is important.
This year, Spigen also offers Slim Armor Pro with S Pen holder for only 10 dollars more. The S Pen slot is similar to the Thin Fit P design so this is the case to buy if you want it all.
The Spigen Slim Armor Pro case, priced at $94.99, is a two-piece case, like its other Z Fold 4 cases. The back cover has a large opening for the camera and is cut out at the edge for the fingerprint and volume sensor areas with a spacious opening for the USB-C port and two microphones. The back is black with a soft matte finish and also has some yellow pads to help with shock and protect your phone.
The front is mainly a frame with a hinge guard. The two parts of the case fit snugly with double-sided tape that also holds in place. The matte-finished soft-touch frame covers the openings for dual stereo speakers.
The hinge mechanism is designed with latches and an arrangement so that it slides over the top of the back cover when the phone is fully opened. In the fully open position when the hinge is hidden by the front and back of the phone, the hinge guard is on the back. This actually gave me a slightly better grip on the phone with the hinge guard grip.
The Z Fold 4 lies mostly flat, with the exception of the camera array, when fully opened and laid down on a surface. That’s not the case with phones wrapped in Slim Armor Pro. There is now a large hump in the middle so that the phone rests on this arm.
