Spence Jr returns with coach Ugas Ismael Salas

At a media workout in Dallas, heavyweight champion Errol Spence Jr responded to recent comments by Yordenis Ugas coach Ismael Salas.

With a three-belt world title fight in less than two weeks, Salas said this week that Spence is not the boxer he used to be.

“Now I feel great and I am 100%. Physically, I’m stable and everything is really normal. If the Ugas coach thinks I’m a different boxer now, we’ll see in two and a half weeks how different I am,” Spence said.

The game against Ugas will be a home game for Spence Jr with AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas hosting one of the biggest games of the year in less than two weeks.

The domestic favorite will defend his WBC and IBF world titles while Cuban Ugas will wind up the WBA, which he won against Manny Pacquiao last year. Spence Jr was once supposed to face the now-retired Philippine icon but withdrew due to the need for retinal eye surgery. Ugas stepped in, took Texan’s place, and withdrew Pacquiao.

“I have been looking forward to this fight ever since I had to leave the Pacquiao fight. I knew I was going to fight the winner, and now I have Ugas in front of me. He’s a tough champion who’s been through a lot in his life.

“I can’t sit back and fight a decent war right now. I want to go straight in with the sharks. Ugas will push me to another level and that’s what I want. I know that if I struggle with adjustment, I can sneak up on late-night snacks and things like that. I’m fighting someone at my level.”
