Southwest offers in-flight Shark Week content for the 10th year in a row

Are you a fan of Shark Week?

If so, you’re lucky if you fly with Southwest Airlines within the next few weeks. For the 10th year in a row, the airline will offer Shark Week specials on its flights as part of a partnership with Discovery Channel, the network that produces the special.

In addition to the in-flight show, Southwest is also holding shark-themed pop-ups at airports in Atlanta, Dallas and New York, according to a Southwest spokesperson.

In previous years, Southwest stood out Shark-themed Boeing 737s and partnered with flight tracking website FlightAware to track these shark-themed planes.

There won’t be a special paint color to celebrate this week. However, a Southwest spokesperson said the Discovery Channel’s in-flight Shark Week program is one of the most popular television programs among its customers.

Launched in 1988, Discovery Channel’s Shark Week program is all about sharks. The release of the movie “Jaws” in 1975 led to misconceptions about sharks. The Discovery Channel launched Shark Week to educate viewers and quell any fears they may have about sharks.

Over the years, the show has become a platform for scientists to back one of the oldest animals on Earth.

Shark Week runs on Discovery Channel from July 23 to July 29.
