South African tennis player Aiden Markram on Wednesday officially dropped out of the remaining two T20I matches against India for missing the first three after testing positive for COVID-19 before the opening match in Delhi. Markram, who tested positive after the first few training sessions, will not be able to return to the arena after the mandatory isolation period.
“Proteas hitter Aiden Markram has been excluded from the rest of Proteas’ India tour. He has spent seven days in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 last week and will not able to complete his return to competition program in time to participate in the remainder of the T20 series,” a statement from Cricket South Africa said.
“The player is healthy and well and has been allowed to return home to take care of his mental and emotional health after being isolated at a local facility, as required when an individual has a test result. tested positive on tour,” it added.
The statement also added that a decision on whether batting goalkeeper Quinton de Kock is available for the remaining two games will be made according to due process by the CSA medical team.
