Source – NFL warns players, teams about safety violations

As the new season begins Sunday, the NFL is warning certain players and teams that it will have zero tolerance for suspensions.

The NFL recently sent a memo to more than 20 players and the teams they play for, stressing the importance of safety and sportsmanship, and warning them they will face suspensions for any violations, league sources told ESPN.

According to sources, the league believes this is an additional effort to try to make the game safer.

Players who have been notified have been fined and scrutinized in the past. The NFL declined to provide a list of players who have been notified, but all have been suspended in the past two seasons for on-field infractions that the league will not tolerate this season.

Among the players suspended over the past two seasons for on-field infractions are Bill safety team practice Kareem Jackson, Steelers Team safety Damontae Kazee, Charger full back Denzel Perryman, Pirates wide receiver Mike EvansAnd Patriots Patriots defensive lineman Trysten Hill.

Teams were also informed at the league’s meeting last month that the club transfer policy was back in effect, sources said. That means teams will face fines for players suspended for safety violations, personal conduct policy issues and drug suspensions. The NFL suspended its transfer policy during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has now reinstated it for the 2024 season.

The league’s memo to teams said: “When a player receives league discipline for a Covered Violation, the amount of the fine (or lost salary in the case of a suspension), up to a maximum of $75,000 per violation, will be applied to the club’s total for that season.”

“For the 2024 season, the Transfer Policy will be triggered when a player on a club incurs more than $90,000 in fines or suspensions. If that threshold is exceeded, the club will be required to transfer an amount equal to the cumulative fines for Covered Violations incurred by its player.

“For example, if a player on a club incurs a total of $175,000 in fines/suspensions for Covered Violations during the 2024 season, that club would be required to pay $175,000.”
