Sir Winston’s First Foal Arrives at Shadowlawn Farm

Crestwood Farm stallion Sir Winston  , who won the 2019 Belmont Stakes (G1), sired his first reported foal when a filly out of Pretty Clever  was born Jan. 30 at owner/breeder Tracy Farmer’s Shadowlawn Farm, according to the farm.

Farmer campaigned the classic-winning stallion.

The filly is the first foal out of Pretty Clever, a winning daughter of Hard Spun   who was raced by Farmer. The mare is out of the Mineshaft   stakes winner Mineralogist , making her a half sister to stakes winner Can You Diggit  (Tiznow). Pretty Clever’s second dam is grade 2 winner and multiple stakes producer Seeking the Ante .

Farmer bought Pretty Clever for $240,000 at Fasig-Tipton’s 2019 The Saratoga Sale, its select yearling sale in New York. She raced from 2-4 and earned nearly $180,000.

Sir Winston, an 8-year-old son of Awesome Again, raced as a Farmer homebred with trainer Mark Casse. He became a grade 3-placed stakes winner at 2 and went on at 3 to be runner-up in the Peter Pan Stakes (G3) before capturing the Belmont Stakes by a length. At 5, he added to his graded stakes credentials by winning the Valedictory Stakes (G3) and finishing second in the Autumn Stakes (G2) and Durham Cup Stakes (G3), all at Woodbine. He was retired with a 6-4-1 record from 20 starts and earned $1,277,623.
