FIM MotoGP Management
Simon Crafar has been confirmed as the next Chairman of the FIM MotoGP Management Board.

“I am really looking forward to taking on this new challenge. It was not an easy decision for me to make this change and accept this appointment, as it means leaving a role that I have enjoyed very much, but after seven years commentating on MotoGP, I am ready for something new. I will approach this new position by drawing on my experience on and off the bike as a rider, technician, coach and journalist, but more importantly with my love for our sport and respect for our competitors. I feel honoured to have been entrusted with this responsibility and to have been nominated for this role.“ .
The New Zealander will take over from Freddie Spencer, as the MotoGP legend decides to step down at the end of the 2024 season.
Spencer’s tenure began in 2019 when he took up the position of Chairman of the FIM MotoGP Management Board as an independent role.

“It has been an honour to be the first Chairman of the Board, and to work to bring the great people and processes we have in place today into this position. When I was asked to be Chairman, I accepted because I wanted to contribute to the sport and I am proud of my tenure. I look forward to some exciting projects in the future, and I know that the team will be in good hands with Simon.“ .
The board chairperson is nominated by the teams’ association (IRTA) and their appointment is then approved by the Permanent Bureau.
Along with the Chairman, the board includes two other Managers, both of whom are nominated by the FIM and approved by the Permanent Bureau.
Simon Crafar will work alongside current FIM MotoGP directors Andrés Somolinos and Tamara Matko.
