Showtime Exec “Very Optimistic” The fight takes place this year
Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza added to the positive buzz that a fight between Errol Spence Jr-Terence Crawford will take place this year.
The undisputed Welterweight clash is near the top of every boxing fan’s wish list for 2022, and both men have set records for believing it will happen.
During an appearance on Brian Custer’s The Last Stand podcast in April, Spence said that super fighting ‘could be an easy fight to make’ as long as he defeats Yordenis Ugas. Nine days later, the Texan did just that to add the WBA title to the IBF and WBC he already owned. Immediately after the victory, Spence make it clear who he wants next.
“I want the next Terence Crawford. That’s the fight I want. I came to get that mother’s belt! “
A month later, the wheel spins even more when the WBO champion Crawford says it will happen in Las Vegas this October.
After reporting Showtime’s Jake Paul-Hasim Rahman Jr came out yesterday FightHype Espinoza asked if the Spence Jr-Crawford match could be played this year.
“I am very optimistic that we are. And if you ask Errol Spence like we did at the TV show last Saturday in our interview with Jim Gray, he is very definitive. He predicted that we would get there and I tend to agree with him. “
“We know of no network obligations or conflicts, no promoter obligations or conflicts. Those are the things that usually mess it up. Now it’s just a matter of mulling over the deal, getting to the point where everyone feels like they’re being treated fairly, all the details have to be taken care of. “
“Knowing how badly Errol wants it, knowing how badly Terence wants it, I think it will happen this year.”
Crawford is free to negotiate with whomever he chooses after parting with Top Rated while Spence is a pay-per-view boxer on Showtime.
