Dallas Cowboys midfielder Dak Prescott injured his thumb in the previous team’s Week 1 loss Tampa Bay Buccaneers and missed three games. In his absence, Dallas took a 3-0 lead with Cooper Rush starting with midfielder.
Prescott is confident he could be back for the Cowboys Week 5 top lane match with Los Angeles Rams. But even if Prescott is healthy, should he be the warm-up?
Shannon Sharpecohost of “Undisputed“, said on Monday that Prescott should start if – and only if – he can perform at his peak.
“Yeah, if he’s willing,” Sharpe said of whether a healthy Prescott should start. “And that means he’s ready. He can do all the things he would normally do if he hadn’t injured his thumb. I have to see how he captures the football. I have to see. the way he turns the ball I have to watch to make sure he can defend not only himself but also the football, and if he can do that, I believe Dak will give them a good chance to win big in the long run.”
Should a healthy Dak Prescott start for the Cowboys over Cooper Rush?
Skip Bayless explains why the Cowboys should continue with Cooper Rush in midfield even when Dak Prescott is ready to take on the Rams.
Prescott totaled 4,449 passes, 37 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a quarterback index of 104.2, completing 68.8% of his passes in 2021. Dallas lost San Francisco 49ers in the NFC wildcard round and 1-3 in the post-season with Prescott. The 29-year-old defender is in the second season of a four-year, $160 million contract.
Skip Bayless disagrees with Sharpe, arguing that Rush has been more consistent than Prescott since 2021.
“[Rush] has consistently played at a more consistent level than Dak Prescott has played since opening Thursday night of last season at Tampa Bay. It was a sensational night though [Prescott] got ‘GOATed’ at the end and lost 31-29 thanks brave cat Bayless said. formerly.

Rush raced for 673 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions and a quarterback index of 100.1, completing 61.8% of his throws in three starts this season. Rush begins for Cowboys at Minnesota Vikings in 2021 when Prescott is sidelined with a shoulder injury. Dallas won 20-16.
The Cowboys’ 3-0 record with Rush in the starting midfield this season comes with a left tackle Tyron Smith (hamstring), wide receiver Michael Gallup (knees) and tight ends Dalton Schultz (knee) each missed at least one match due to injury.
