Shelter volunteers and her husband adopted two three-legged dogs

Rescue dogs often face some difficult experiences when leading them to shelters in the first place. For two dogs in Washington state, severely injured legs were the culprit. These two dogs, arriving at the same shelter at different times, both required amputations. Their similar paths eventually lead to a common destination: a forever home with the same volunteers.

The first dog, Frankie, joined the Humane Society of Tacoma & Pierce County after being hit by a car. A police officer present at the scene brought him in. When he was examined, the staff realized that he would need to have his leg amputated to survive.

After the surgery, the shelter staff worked hard to rehabilitate him. One volunteer in particular, Caitlyn Walker, found herself enamored with this resolute dog as she helped it adjust. She decided she wanted to help him often as his fur mother; All she needs to do is deal with it with her husband. When faced with Frankie’s adorable little face, he couldn’t say no, and this newborn three-legged dog became his forever home.

Walker is so glad her volunteer work at the shelter led to meeting this adorable dog, she said: “I really recommend to people that volunteering with rescued animals can bring you to life. my newest best friend.”

Not long after that, another close friend of hers and Frankie was also on her way. An injured puppy found by a good Samaritan is once again taken to a shelter. Sally, as he was later named, also required amputation. As shelter workers worked to get her treated, Walker couldn’t resist this second three-legged dog, and she took her home to meet Frankie.

His personality says the two quickly became friends, and Sally’s audacity helped make Frankie a little braver. The passion for life also helps Frankie learn to have fun.

“I am grateful for the actions of the good Samaritans who brought Frankie and Sally into our local humanitarian society,” says Walker. They have been wonderful additions to our family and have a clear love they have for each other. Being a volunteer is the best opportunity to meet my baby mice and know they are for me and my wife! ”
