Former two-time Welterweight champion Shawn Porter has had his say on a potential superfight between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford.
Porter has shared the ring with both men during his career and is well placed to provide insight into what each welterweight champion has to offer.
‘Showtime’ battled Spence Jr in 2019 and was eliminated in a split decision with many fans thinking he’s done enough to get a show of hands.
It’s no wonder he faced Crawford last November when Porter was finally stopped by Bud in the tenth round. The loss would mark the successful end of a career with his retirement announced in the post-match press conference.
For most heavyweight boxing fans, the Welterweight bout will no doubt be the match they’re most looking forward to in 2022. This bout has been rumored for a while but now now seems closer than ever, with Crawford is confident the fight will happen this year in Las Vegas.
Porter was a guest on Last standing podcast where Brian Custer asked him some questions about the two fighters.
Considering you’ve entered the ring with all of them, in your opinion, who’s the best fighter in the heaviest weight class right now?
“The current heavyweight must be Terence Crawford.”
“There are only certain things that I have seen, felt, felt, all nine things.”
“He’s just a little bit better than everyone I’ve been with.”
You fought with Errol before accidentWhat is the difference between fighting him and fighting ‘Bud’ Crawford?
“I have a feeling Errol will confirm this, but I think when he entered the ring Errol was ready to beat me in my fight and Terence was ready to beat me in his fight. .”
“Mentally, there’s a difference.”
Do you believe it will be an explosive war?
“Sure. Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence will be a blast – I can guarantee it!”
“Errol likes to be the commander in chief, likes to control the ring, does whatever he wants. Against me, he chose to try to beat me in my own match. “
“Terence said ‘I’m coming to the ring – here’s what I’m going to do – stop me'”
“You have two people saying stop me, you can’t beat that!”
