After serving in the military for a long time, many service members have difficulty adjusting back to civilian life.
Becca Stephens is no exception. She served in the US Army for four years, including an intense tour of Iraq. When she finally got home, she struggled with PTSD and depression.
She started seeing the doctor because she was having nightmares and she noticed a lot of things had changed in her. That’s when the doctor diagnosed her with PTSD.
Her numbing emotions and PTSD led Stephens to a spiritual experience. But just as things were turning bleak, Stephens was accepted into the show “K9s for Warriors,” where she was paired with a service dog named Bobbi.
Having Bobbi in her life gave her a will to live.
“Knowing that someone is on guard, that helps a lot,” says Stephens. Good Morning America.
Bobbi knew to take Stephens’ side and looked away from her, reassuring her that she had turned her back.
“The kind of commands they teach these dogs is the real reason why we are able to go back in public again because so many of us have closed down for a number of years and know that the Our service dogs will take care of us when we go out, what more encouragement could you ask for? ” she continue.
Stephens and Bobbi have formed a very special relationship over the years, and she is grateful to have Bobbi in her life. She was able to do a lot of things in public that she couldn’t do before. Bobbi not only gave Stephens a will to live but also a loving companionship.
