Sea Tow’s Canine Co-Captains – Dogster

It’s a dark and eerie night on the water, and you’re stuck in a boat with engine problems. You wonder, “Who’s going to come rescue me and drag me back to town?” Fear not – the dogs of Sea Tow are here! These pups and their highly trained human co-captains support thousands of seafarers in need each year.

Sea Tow is a membership service that provides support on the water up and down the Atlantic and Gulf Coast, Southern California, and certain inland lakes. Sea Tow has a 24/7 dispatch service and can reach the troubled boat in an hour or less and provide services such as fuel delivery, jump start, exit, mast malfunction and even Repair boats right on the water.

No matter what body of water you’re sailing in, there’s always a Sea Tow spot with a co-captain dog nearby. For example, in Massachusetts, there is a red Labrador Retriever named Cooper at the Sea Tow Cape and Islands. At Sea Tow in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, there’s a yellow lab called Tuna. Then, at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida site, there was a 9-month-old Golden Retriever named Skipper. These dogs are ready to help! In fact, to boaters, these canines are more recognizable than those of Sea Tow employees.

Another dog that can be part of your rescue team is Birdie, from Sea Tow Manasquan, which covers the Atlantic coastline in central New Jersey. This 3-year-old Weimaraner takes her job very seriously. While her owner and captain Tim Sanzone were taking care of the boat’s needs, Birdie was always on duty in a kind, friendly manner by wagging her tail and providing comfort to stranded rowers. .

According to Captain Sanzone, general manager of Sea Tow Manasquan, Birdie is “a fearless companion and one of the friendliest dogs I have ever had. She loved other dogs and children and never left me. She is full of energy and life and never misses an opportunity to go on a boat ride. ”

When Birdie isn’t busy helping stranded boaters, she enjoys going swimming, hanging out with her mother Stacey (Tim’s wife), and eating her favorite food, watermelon.

Every cruiser hopes they will never run into problems at sea and need to call for help. If the unthinkable happens, hopefully with help, one of these adorable Sea Tows will be on board to save the day!
