Scotland trash can strike: Waste action and education suspended | UK News
Waste and education strikes across Scotland have been suspended after unions said they would introduce a new pay offer to members.
Waste service members and non-teaching educational roles are leaving next week, but talks with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon ended with a proposal that could end the services. strike.
GMB and Unite joined Unison in suspending the warning, and said they would make a new salary offer for members that they suggested should be accepted.
Wendy Dunsmore, Unite’s lead negotiator for local government, said: “Following the most recent round of intensive negotiations, a new credible offer has finally been brought to the table by Cosla.
“Unite would like to acknowledge the direct involvement of the First Minister as the main reason for the breakthrough.
“The offer on the table has been fully consolidated and as such there will be more cash available in the future for local government employees.”
Under the revised proposal, workers earning up to £20,500 would receive a £2,000 a year increase.
