“Save the Children” Choice Climate Virtues For Feeding Hungry Children – Are you excited about that?

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

You can look forward to the eve of a global food price crisis, a charity that truly cares about feeding starving children swallows their pride and favors receiving donations from any legitimate source. But Save the Children seems to have decided that they care more about cues of climate conditions than their core mission.

Charity refuses to donate £750,000 from gas company over reluctance to accept cash from fossil fuel companies

  • Save the Children turned down a large donation because it was from a gas producer

Save the Children has turned down an energy company’s £750,000 grant to defuse the Ukraine crisis because it doesn’t want to endorse fossil fuels.

It declined cash from North Sea gas producer Neptune Energy two weeks ago, claiming it was ‘committed to working climate change problem’.

Despite refusing to help Ukraine, they said they would take cash to their Children’s Emergency Fund, which supports children in crises around the world, because ‘this can be used in a crisis in which money is relatively scarce’.

Neptune, which said it had given £1.5 million to Ukraine’s humanitarian efforts, challenged the decision with Save the Children trustees, saying their staff had chosen the organization. charity and shunned them ‘shocked’ them.

Save the Children will now turn down grants from companies ‘whose core business is fossil fuels…’ following the lead of children protesting about the threat posed by the crisis climate crisis for their future’, Daily Telegraph reported.

This has to be one of the most amazing examples of climate hypocrisy and bad timing I’ve ever come across.

Each of the “Save the Children” executives made this important decision to use fossil fuels in their daily lives, in the clothes they wear, home appliances, heating systems, and so on. home, the roads they drive. Their computers and phones are largely made of fossil fuel-based plastic and run on fossil fuels. Even if they drive EVs, their cars are mostly made of fossil fuels and are recharged by running on fossil fuels. Any metal components in their electric vehicles are melted and shaped using fossil fuel-powered machines.

The timing of this move could not have been worse. The world is on the verge of a food supply crisis, thanks to disruption of 25% of the world’s wheat supply, wheat usually comes from Ukraine.

Even worse, the rest of the world could find it unusually difficult to make up the shortfall caused by fertilizer shortages. A significant part of the world’s fertilizers are produced in Russia.

Can you imagine a more absurd time when a food bank charity decided to be picky about whose money they received?

My suggestion, if you generally support “Save the Children”, find another charity to support, a charity run by people whose core mission is the focus.
