Sapphire Reserve cardholders can apply for Marriott Bonvoy Gold status

There is good news for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders: Chase and Marriott have launched a new status challenge similar to the one that the megabanks and hotels launched a year ago.

As of July 1, those with Chase Sapphire Reserve can register for Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status. Looks like this offer is open to all cardholders. Note that this status is free but is temporary unless you complete three qualifying paid nights with Marriott.

Here’s what you need to know about this cardholder offer, what it offers, and how to maintain it over the next 18 months.

CHASE.COM

Chase quietly added this cardholder perk on July 1. You can access it in your cardholder benefits on the Chase website.

According to the terms, you must register by September 30 to enjoy three months free Gold Elite Status with Marriott Bonvoy. This status tier includes perks like 25% bonus points for paid stays, late check-out (if applicable), non-deluxe room upgrades based on availability at most hotels, and welcome bonus points gift upon check-in.

You can enter your Marriott Bonvoy number from the benefits details page and claim your free status. This status will only last three months unless you complete the status challenge.

Extend your status until February 2025

One of the best perks of Gold Elite status is a no-show room upgrade at most Marriott-branded hotels. KYLE OLSEN/THE POINT

If you want to maintain your Gold status with Marriott Bonvoy, you must complete at least three paid nights in the three months of free status. If you do this, you’ll keep your Gold status until February 2025. Any three nights should suffice, but they must be covered with an accommodation fee — stay using points or free night prize Not count for. Additionally, these nights must be booked directly with Marriott to be eligible. Use of third-party platforms (including Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal) will not be counted.

Unfortunately, there is no way to complete an extra stay to achieve higher status. The only option is to stay for three paid nights and then maintain Gold status. And if you currently have Gold status (or higher), then you are not eligible.

Be sure to time your application carefully, as the three-month eligibility window begins when your request is processed. You’ll want to make sure you do so before your qualifying stay(s), but not too soon.

Finally, it’s worth noting that there are other ways to unlock free Marriott Gold status. The Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card include this status for all cardholders and it’s a benefit to both Platinum Card® from American Express And Business Platinum® Card from American Express (registration is required). If you have one of those cards, you can get the same status without having to stay.

bottom line

Gold status is the second lowest level in the Marriott Bonvoy. It does not provide suite upgrades or warranties free breakfast. However, this may result in an upgrade to a fancy room, a larger room, or a room with a better view at most Marriott Bonvoy-branded properties. I stayed at the JW Marriott Rio de Janeiro a few years ago as a Marriott Gold member and was upgraded to a larger room with a great view of Copacabana Beach.

Getting free elite status is always a good perk. Staying just three nights paid to keep this status for another year and a half is pretty straightforward, assuming it fits your travel plans.
