SAP adds genAI through AWS to accelerate digital modernization

By integrating Amazon Web Services’ Bedrock artificial intelligence into AI Core, SAP SE said Wednesday that it aims to improve the performance and efficiency of enterprise workloads running in the cloud and embedding genAI. into customers’ business-critical applications.

In addition to allowing customers to access basic and large language models through the SAP platform, the enterprise platform provider said it will also use AWS chips to train and deploy AI services in future as well as Amazon’s next generation storage to support expanded SAP database requirements.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

To modernize key business processes built on SAP, the business application provider announced that secure access to a variety of LLMs can be easily integrated into your business applications. SAP through expanded partnership with AWS.

By integrating with the underlying models in Amazon Bedrock, SAP enterprise customers can leverage AI-based insights to streamline manual processes.

According to the announcement, these tools can be used in embedded use cases in RISE with SAP and intelligent scenario lifecycle management functionality as an integrated component or in parallel directly on the Platform SAP Business Technology.

Companies like Siemens Healthineers use RISE with SAP and other tools to migrate to the cloud and streamline their data sources to standardize processes and improve agility across their growth pipeline .

In October, Stefan Henkel, chief information officer at Siemens Healthineers, said the healthcare technology provider used SAP to reduce complexity.

“This migration to the cloud is especially important for us as we continue to invest in technology to support our continued growth,” SAP said in an earlier announcement.

AWS and SAP plan to expand Bedrock’s capabilities in the genAI hub to include additional use cases in financial and product lifecycle management.

“Partnerships like this with AWS are important as we integrate general AI solutions into our ERP applications so customers can can drive innovation at a faster pace.”

For large and complex database deployments, RISE with SAP users also benefit from the performance of Amazon EC2 High Memory U7i, which provides up to 32TiB of memory in a single instance.

Partners are also working to improve sustainability in advanced computing. Building on the success of using Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud instances based on Graviton3, SAP and AWS are collaborating on the next generation of Graviton4.

SAP says it realizes up to 30% better compute power for analytics workloads and an estimated 45% reduction in carbon emissions for its HANA Cloud. The company added it will also use AWS Trainium and AWS Inferentia chips for training and deployment of its future business AI services.

BIGGER TREND

For more than six years, developers have been actively working with AI to add capabilities to ERP software and better integrate applications.

Earlier this month, NVIDIA Healthcare announced an integration with AWS for NIM, a suite of 25 non-cloud-native microservices that leverage platform models for drug discovery, medical imaging, and genomics .

“Easy access to NIM will enable thousands of healthcare and life sciences companies using AWS to deploy synthetic AI faster without development complexity,” NVIDIA said. model and packaging for production”.

Through a partnership with Johnson & Johnson MedTech, NVIDIA AI technology enhances real-time analysis and expands the application of AI algorithms in surgical procedures.

ON PROFILE

“AWS was the first cloud provider certified to support the SAP portfolio, and today thousands of enterprise companies run SAP solutions on AWS to get the most out of their mission-critical applications”.

Klein added: “In addition to delivering modern cloud ERP to our mutual customers, we are excited to support Amazon on their own transformation journey as they apply RISE with SAP to their pioneering field”.
