Sanderson Farms Championship 2022 standings, scores: Mark Hubbard eyeing first PGA Tour win after Round 3

The third round of the 2022 Sanderson Farm Championships is in the books, and one man ripped himself from the group trying to secure his first PGA Tour win in just the second event. of the 2022-23 season.

Mark Hubbard hit a 7 under 65 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Mackenzie Hughes and three (or more) at the rest of a really interesting top of this standings. That sets the stage for what will be a hot Sunday at Country Club of Jackson as Hubbard tries to close 18 life-changing holes, while a host of other players try to raise his bid to do the same. so.

Let’s take a look back at what happened in round 3 of Sanderson and look forward to the final day.

Leader

1. Highlight Hubbard (-15)

The downfall is made for players like Hubbard. The world number 188 player is trying to enter professional tournaments, along with major events next spring and summer. A win this week will also net you the Tour championship next August. Hubbard has played brilliantly this week – first from tee to green and first on approach shots – and he’s working on his best-ever record in Houston. Open 2019, where he placed 2nd behind Lanto Griffin.

Hubbard is one of the fascinating characters on the Tour – his dream quartet is E. Harvie Ward, Walter Hagen and Yohann Benson, and his favorite book is “Ready Player One” – and he sure sure to be a fan (and possibly Twitter) favorite until Sunday’s final round.

Incredibly, Hubbard is probably more surprised than anyone by his position.

“I took a break last week,” he said. “My daughter got sick, then she accidentally dropped a kitchen knife on the counter and stabbed me in the leg, so I’ve had a puncture in my leg all week, and I haven’t worked out at all last week, because So I just wanted to come here to try to prepare for Vegas honestly.

“I think that probably has a lot to do with having low expectations. That said, I’ve felt unbelievable about my game for the last six, seven months, so I just tried to move on and on. keep those expectations low and just try and hit good golf shots.”

Other candidates

2. Mackenzie Hughes (-14)
T3. Garrick Higgo, Scott Stallings, Sepp Straka (-12)
T6. Nick Hardy, Keegan Bradley (-11)
T8. SH Kim, Dean Burmester, Emiliano Grillo (-10)

Hughes is interesting because he was among the best players on the PGA Tour last season but didn’t win a golf tournament. He’s playing solid golf again this week and is second in the tee-to-golf field behind Hubbard. Hughes has won before and will not fear this moment (if it ever comes). He’s probably the player, along with Hardy, I’d most like to watch on Sunday as Hubbard tries to pull out.

Scary Sunday?

This table top isn’t the best on the PGA Tour when it comes to wins; Bradley leads with four PGA Tour wins. There will probably be some shaking hands and a few gasps when things get late. That would make golf even more exciting than it was on Sunday, and it would give Sanderson a great finish between lots of interesting players.

2022 Sanderson Farms Championship updated odds and selection

  • Mark Hubbard: +210
  • Mackenzie Hughes: 3-1
  • Scott Stallings: 7-1
  • Sepp Straka: 17/2
  • Garrick Higgo: 12-1
  • Keegan Bradley: 14-1
  • Nick Hardy: 18-1

Hardy is doing a great job at that, but he hasn’t been doing anything and circling the pitch this week. He just finished second and second (and the lead was four). It was my pick to shoot something silly on Sunday and get through a group above him with more experience, but perhaps not as much talent as Hardy possessed.
