Samyang announces 3 cine T1.3 ‘Meister’ primes, 50mm T2.3 2x anamorphic lens: Digital photography review
Samyang, also known as Rokinon, has announced four new XEEN cinematic elements, including three T1.3 ‘Meister’ elements and a single 2x anamorphic element.
XEEN 35mm, 50mm and 85mm T1.3 ‘Meister’ prime number
Triangle XEEN ‘Meister’ prime number is designed for cameras with resolutions up to 8K and uses Samyang’s proprietary X coating technology. The lenses are color matched across the entire ‘Meister’ range and all offer the same T1.3 aperture with a 13-blade aperture diaphragm. Each lens also features a 300º rotation for the geared focus ring, 92º rotation for the aperture ring, 114mm front filter thread, and 127mm diameter for the filters, follow focus system, and accessories. Others work across the entire product line.
These lenses are available for Canon, PL, and Sony EF-mount camera systems. PL-mount versions include the Technology I protocol for recording lens metadata, including focal length, aperture, and focusing distance. All lenses are carbon fiber and metal construction with luminescent apertures and focus points for easier viewing in low-light environments.
XEEN 50mm T2.3 2x Anamorphic
Along with the three prime numbers of ‘Meister’, Samyang also revealed details about its new product 50mm T2.3 2x anamorphic lens for full-frame sensors.
As with its ‘Meister’ companions, the 50mm T2.3 2x anamorphic lens is made of carbon fiber and metal. It also offers the same 114mm front filter thread, has a diameter of 128mm and uses the same 300º rotation for the focus ring. However, the aperture ring is only 89.5º, 2.5º shorter than prime, has a faster maximum aperture.
After the footage is removed, the PL-mount XEEN Anamorphic lens covers 2.55:1 CinemaScope Format. Other features include a 15-blade aperture diaphragm, luminescent painted markers for aperture and focus, and a minimum focusing distance of one meter (3.3ft).
No pricing or availability information is provided at this time for any lenses. We’ve reached out to Samyang for pricing and release date details.
