2022 Dodge Durango adds R/T Plus trim

For the 2021 model year, entry level Dodge Durango Next-level SXT trim and GT trim offer enhanced SXT Plus and GT Plus versions. Among the planned changes for next year State of Durango Mexico, Mopar Insiders report that the Addition formula goes one step further up the ladder with Avoid planning R/T Plus for the 2022 model year. The R/T is the first of a number of trim steps to get a 5.7-liter V8 producing 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. -feet, and sits directly below the luxury-oriented Citadel decor. The Plus version will add a host of luxury and driver assistance features with a slight discount for configuring them à la carte.

Equipment list includes Technology Group’s advanced, adaptive cruise control system brake assist, forward collision warning and lane departure warning; Upgraded dashboard of the Premium Interior Group and suede headband; blind spot detection of Safety and Security Systems; an electric sunroof; 19 speakers, 825 Watt Harman Kardon sound; and Nappa leather seats. Configuring all of this on the Durango 2021 with a no-charge white paint job yields an MSRP of $56,942. However, the addition of the Premium Group automatically adds the captain’s seats in the second row worth $1,275, and it doesn’t appear that those seats will come with the R/T Plus. Backing that up, we’re left at $55,667.

MSRP for the rear-wheel drive 2022 Durango R/T Plus is $53,820 after a $1,595 destination charge. That represents a jump of $5,818 over the 2021 Durango R/T RWD and $3,413 over the 2021 Durango Citadel, but a $1,847 savings over the similarly equipped 2021 Durango R/T. This price difference doesn’t account for any price hikes for the 2022 Durango, as we still don’t know the price of next year’s model. Adding all-wheel drive brings the R/T Plus MSRP up to $56,420.

And of course these prices are for a Durango in DB Black or White Knuckle paint for free. Dodge destroyed seven of the exterior 11 current strengths colour palette, leaving just those two freebies to run with Octane Red and Destroyer Gray, both of which will cost $395.

Production of next year’s Durango will begin later this month.
