Sam Jones echoed the thoughts of many boxing fans and boxers when he spoke out about the lack of ‘common sense’ behind the postponement of events.
The UK, following the tragic death of Queen Elizabeth II, has entered a period of national mourning. Given the exceptional nature of the events, it is unclear how this will affect the world of sports.
Historically, sporting events have been moved or canceled out of respect for passing public figures. This year, new guidelines were published leaving the final decision up to the sports bodies. Boxing followed football and horse racing to postpone weekend games.
Sam Jones, Head of Talent at Probellum and Co-Founder of management agency S-JAM Boxing, had its say with Boxing Social. He said the decision to postpone boxing, specifically Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall BOXXER, was “ridiculous.”
“I respect the Royal Family. No one sings the national anthem louder than me when football starts, but canceling any sporting event is ridiculous. It’s completely absurd.
The point is with boxing that… not only do they lift weights and put their bodies through hell to gain weight, they go through a camp – and Savannah, Claressa, and all the other girls on this list will. pay for their camp. Some of them may work well, they may not do it full time.
“I don’t want to get involved in politics, because I’m not smart enough to do that, but what I do know is that people shouldn’t – not be forced to cry – but we’re like forced to be sad if something goes wrong. that makes sense. It’s terrible what happened to the Queen’s passing. 96 years old, she has lived a full life, and we should respect the Queen, but there is nothing more patriotic than singing the national anthem before.
